Description
The tracks on Tristesse, Iliona’s first EP, unfold like fragments of a melancholy with ever-changing features. Each has its own climate: autotune and synthetic arpeggios on the gorgeous Reste, which tries to catch, with the tips of its fingers, a love that’s slipping away. A pop ditty in Une Autre Vie, hummed casually, like smiling through tears to pretend everything’s fine. The minimalism of Les Tulipes, whose silences express the emptiness of an abandoned bed. Two electronic pieces—one celestial (Intro), the other shadowy (Marguerite)—that prove Iliona can also tell stories without using words. And Baguette Magique, where her voice unfolds and reveals doubts and vulnerabilities, like throwing oneself off a cliff. Longing and fog, tightened heart and solitude: each of Iliona’s tracks approaches Tristesse from a different angle, like contemplating the facets of a diamond. Her perspective and her melodies give them a new shade in which, nevertheless, we recognize ourselves. The mark of a great artist. Multiple, plural. Unique.
