Description
Released in 1976, Tapper Zukie’s M.P.L.A. captures the revolutionary spirit of Jamaica in turmoil. Its relentless rhythms and militant lyrics made it an urgent record, embraced both by reggae fans and the punk scene, which saw in it a manifesto of resistance.
Born David Sinclair in Kingston, Tapper Zukie spent some time in London, where he recorded his first tracks before returning to Jamaica in 1974. Working alongside Bunny Lee, he eventually established his voice through sessions for Lloydie Slim and other producers. From this period—marked by tensions with producers and unbridled creativity—ten tracks recorded at King Tubby’s Studio emerged to form M.P.L.A., an album that became a cult classic and a lasting influence.
