Description
From childhood through her teenage years, MARGOT was immersed in classical music. She began studying violin at the age of four in the small North Florida town where she grew up. At 19, she moved to New York on her own, where artists such as Radiohead, Sigur Rós and Björk opened her ears to new ways of approaching strings.
She quickly became one of the most sought-after studio musicians of her generation, working with artists including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and St. Vincent, while developing a musical language of her own as a composer and producer.
In 2020, a chance meeting in Colombia with pianist and composer Juan Villacrez marked a turning point. Together, they created the instrumental album The Apartment on Third Street, produced by Amazon Music, which has since amassed over 13 million streams. They later retreated to Vermont, where they spent two years working on a new project.
Shaped by a period of profound personal upheaval following the loss of both her mother and father, The Villain unfolds as an inward journey across ten movements. Recorded live in Colombia with minimal takes and no unnecessary production, the album brings together neoclassical, jazz and orchestral music in a deeply organic and cinematic form. MARGOT’s distinctive violin playing and compositional voice give the record its intimate, ever-shifting character.
