Description
“Find a Way” is the new album by Manchester-born pianist, composer, and producer Matt Wilde, released on his own label, Hello World Records. This album is a reminder that creativity should be accessible, and that embracing the unexpected is key to finding one’s own path — in any endeavor. Drawing inspiration from jazz improvisation and harmony, Wilde creates a sound that sits at the crossroads of jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music.
The album was funded by Arts Council England and created in close collaboration with trumpeter and composer Aaron Wood, the pair recording in Wilde’s rural studio in Huddersfield. By improvising on upright piano, Rhodes, and trumpet over meticulously programmed beats, the duo captured the spontaneity that gives jazz its life, while adding the forward-thinking touch of live Ableton production.
Matt Wilde came to jazz through an unconventional path, and Find a Way serves as an introspective map of his musical evolution. A self-taught beatmaker, he grew up making tracks for his friends on the grime scene before developing a passion for jazz through the sample-rich works of Madlib, J Dilla, and Pete Rock. Their influence can be heard on “Windup,” driven by deeper basslines and a glitchy intensity rarely found in jazz. The record also nods to Matt’s weekly DJ residencies in his late teens, where he developed a love for club music in Manchester’s iconic venues such as Sankeys.
Guided by the values of accessibility and creativity, Matt has become a leading voice in the UK’s forward-thinking jazz and beats scene. His debut album Hello World, along with his EPs and singles, have been praised by the British media.
