Archenfield
Description
Self-taught musicologist and sample collagist, U turned his archivist’s eye toward the 1980s post-punk crucible with his debut EP Life Isn’t A Fountain?, released on Lex. He followed this with an experimental exploration of regional identity on ARCHENFIELD, a deeply personal collection of ambient music and found sounds that examines the relationship between geographical space and sonic histories.
To create this album, U drew from a rich archive of regionally linked recordings. With a nod to traditional music, he samples these recordings to craft stunningly atmospheric pieces, often combined with carefully curated excerpts, forming an emotive reflection on local history and, more broadly, on how we engage with English folklore today. Pressed on 180g vinyl, the album comes with a 24-page visual booklet that extends its folkloric themes and narratives through imagery and storytelling, echoing the album’s sonic landscape.
