Underdog Records, in English, means Outsider, someone who starts from nothing to achieve something. It's also a nod to a song by Sly and The Family Stone: Underdog. The label was founded in 2024 by Maxime Péron and Laurent Loudier and is now located near Normandy. Last year, Underdog Records celebrated its 20th anniversary—20 years of passion, risk-taking, and enriching moments—and continues to showcase a powerful, innovative, and vibrant groove, navigating between soul, funk, jazz, Afrobeat, and Latin music with groups like Kolinga, The Bongo Hop, Joao Selva, Flox, The Buttshakers, and Dafuniks. The label has also made it its mission to reissue library music from the 1970s, such as Janko Nilovic, Harlem Pop Trotters, and Martial Solal, and is preparing new reissues from a diverse catalog for 2026-27. Underdog Records is a true artist-run label, on a human scale but open to major challenges, the greatest of which is to surprise you. www.underdogrecords.fr
