Description

The Suedehead sound of the early 1970s followed in the footsteps of the skinhead style from 1968 to 1970. The main difference was both visible and audible: the sharp, energetic rhythms began to soften, giving rise to what would soon be known as the early reggae sound.

The harsher and more aggressive Rude Boy/Skinhead style eased up slightly, almost matching a less frantic tempo, for a slower and smoother groove. Hairstyles grew a bit longer, evolving from a Mark 1 to a Feather Cut. The lyrics, inspired by “Rude Boy Out of Jail”, became more thoughtful, marking a new turning point in the ongoing evolution of Jamaican music.
