Description
Dario Bassolino is a pianist, producer and composer born in Naples, where he is currently based. With an eclectic musical taste and remarkable versatility, he has produced and performed alongside alternative R&B singer LNDFK, jazz-funk legend Nicola Conte, Pellegrino of Early Sounds, and has collaborated with Nu Genea, Kurt Rosenwinkel and rapper Pink Siifu among others.
Inspired by Brazilian funk pioneers such as Hermeto Pascoal and Airto Moreira, as well as Italian songwriters including Franco Califano, Lucio Battisti, Panella, Enzo Di Domenico and Gennaro D’Auria, Bassolino creates deeply organic live performances shaped by jazz improvisation, funk and disco influences.
Over the years, he has performed internationally at major festivals including Primavera Sound, Montreux Jazz Festival, Dour Festival and We Out Here.
Bassolino’s latest album exists somewhere between where the sea begins and the sky ends. Across two tracks, it traces a line connecting Naples, Tunis and Beirut — a subtle yet tangible thread linking different parts of the Mediterranean.
This idea forms the foundation of “Popoli del Mare,” where layered sound waves and rhythmic compositions blend together seamlessly. The Afro-influenced approach of Charif Megarbane merges naturally with Bassolino’s dreamy Italian harmonies.
“Baid Alik” is both a love song and a song of hope. Strongly inspired by the sonic research and aesthetics of Habibi Funk, the track evokes a shared ancestral past explored together with Tunisian singer Marzouk Mejri.
His voice — somewhere between proto-rap and melodic singing — blends effortlessly with the track’s cinematic disco instrumentation.
