Have you ever hit the road wanting to leave everything behind?
To leave. For the sea, anywhere. To leave behind parents, family, love, work, home. To be forgotten, for a few days. To get lost…
But halfway through the journey, a breakdown. The unexpected changes your plans.
What to do? Spend the night somewhere?
There, at the side of the road, a light.
A rendezvous with something else.
What?
You open the door.
At the reception desk, you’re handed the key to room no. 8.
“It’s the only room left.”
So you take it. But ever since you’ve been in it, it’s as if the receptionist can no longer find you.
“Which room are you in?”
Fears, dreams, loves, a change of space, of address...
Parents, family, love, work...
It’s the friction between leaving and returning, in the middle of the road, in the middle of your life.
Then a tune comes back to you.
Looking more closely, you find a tape recorder on the bedside table and you hear: “This last motel doesn’t exist, it’s an illusion.”
And so the real journey begins.
