Description

Drummer-composer Tom Skinner, a member of The Smile, presents Kaleidoscopic Visions, his second solo album, set to be released on September 26 by Brownswood Recordings and International Anthem.

On Side A, he unfolds entirely instrumental compositions with his group Bishara, including Tom Herbert on bass, Kareem Dayes on cello, Robert Stillman and Chelsea Carmichael on woodwinds, enhanced by Adrian Utley’s electric guitar on two tracks. Among these are Auster, a tribute to writer Paul Auster, and Margaret Anne, dedicated to his mother, a piano prodigy, celebrating the musical legacy she passed on to him.

Side B opens up to vocal collaborations where jazz, soul, and dreamlike textures intersect. The highlight is The Maxim, a dub-inspired, airy meditation on life and death featuring the legendary Meshell Ndegeocello. The album also includes the soulful ballad Logue with Contour, Khari Lucas, and the closing track See How They Run, a spoken word jazz piece with Yaffra, Jonathan Geyevu. The record showcases one of the key figures of the London scene revealing the full, kaleidoscopic range of his musical universe.
