Krok
Description
Despite immense challenges, SOYUZ has delivered with KROK a landmark album in their career. “Krok” means “step” in Belarusian, a word full of meaning for Alex Chumak and his band, who were forced to leave Belarus for Warsaw in 2022 in the context of political unrest and the war in Ukraine. For the first time, Chumak writes in Belarusian, offering nine songs about dreams, space, and the miracles of everyday life.
Deeper and more melancholic than their previous records, KROK embodies the essence of SOYUZ: hope, fragility, and the celebration of life. Seeking new horizons, Chumak recorded the album in São Paulo with Sessa, Biel Basile, and Marcelo Cabral, then completed the arrangements in Europe with strings, woodwinds, and keyboards. Neither Brazilian nor purely Eastern European, KROK transcends labels. Between folk, pop-jazz, and international influences, its refined compositions blend poetry, boldness, and sumptuous arrangements, with every note finding its rightful place.
