Tuff Times Never Last - Limited
Description
Scheduled for release on July 11 via Brownswood Recordings, Tuff Times Never Last is the new album by Kokoroko. Comprising 11 tracks, it celebrates perseverance, community, sensuality, and life’s dualities with optimism. Inspired by a viral meme, the project reflects the beauty that can arise from hardship.
The album artwork, created by Luci Pina, pays tribute to summer in London, family, and the Black community, echoing the films Crooklyn and The Wood. Sheila Maurice-Grey and Onome Edgeworth, the band’s co-leaders, emphasize the importance of telling their own story and maintaining creative freedom in their musical exploration.
Three years after Could We Be More, Kokoroko expands its sonic universe: Afrobeat jazz, 1980s British R&B, neo-soul, West African disco, bossa nova, lovers rock, and funk. The first single, Sweetie, showcases this rich sound palette, blending brass, electronic textures, and retro rhythms.
The album’s release will be followed by the band’s biggest tour to date, including a performance at the O2 Academy Brixton on September 25.
