Description
Following the release of her third album Where Light Settles, saxophonist and composer Jasmine Myra returns with tide/turn, an ambitious new four-track EP that sees her explore a more stripped-back, contemporary jazz sound. Reflective and deeply immersive, the music draws on themes of contemplation, space and movement. Self-produced alongside Matthew Halsall, the EP finds Myra embracing a more open and intimate approach to composition. The title track unfolds around hypnotic rhythms evoking the natural ebb and flow of the tide. 'reverie' moves between dreamlike harp and piano passages, capturing the sensation of drifting in and out of thought. 'boundless as the sea' embraces a smaller ensemble and an unhurried sense of space. Closing the EP, 'peace by peace' grows organically into a richly textured arrangement. Together, these pieces offer a thoughtful and quietly uplifting EP, balancing intimacy and expansiveness with the standout melodies that have become hallmarks of Myra's music.
