An evolution of her radio show, event series and Bandcamp community under the same name, this compilation plots a globe-spanning day-into-night voyage across 16 tracks, from artists, countries and scenes that have shaped Jamz’ musical worldview. Each track, many of which are exclusive to this comp, tells a story of heritage and roots, whilst pushing boundaries and pioneering new sounds in their respective regions. From the Réunion Island to Latin America, East Africa to the Caribbean and Pacific, it’s a 24-hour cycle moving from downtempo to dancefloor. The concept of Dance Around The World began in the summer of 2025 but has ultimately been a part of Jamz’ journey in music since the beginning. At the centre of it is her 15-year career as radio presenter - her tastes evolving from the early days on Reprezent Radio, to a 1Xtra residency and now a Saturday daytime show on BBC 6Music. There has always been a desire to highlight music from underrepresented scenes to new audiences. Far removed from algorithmic influence, each scene, each artist is one that Jamz has a personal connection to. Split across two sides, marking two interconnected moods, the Day side features sun-soaked sounds rooted in activism, storytelling and heritage. Bringing together Equiknoxx founder Gavsborg and dub educator, Riddim Writer, Groundsound’s rhythmic yet deeply powerful track ‘Bittersweet’ kicks things off. It sets the scene and intention for the compilation whilst starting a percussive thread that runs through every track. Elsewhere, the all-female Maloya group SIMANGAVOLE collaborate with SOA RAVELO for a hypnotic, communal song that hits the spirit. Moving through the Day you’ll find a love letter to the sounds of Cape Town from Esa Williams, beats-heavy, garage rock courtesy of Rio’s Oruã, and a fusion of traditional Guadeloupean grooves with contemporary jazz and hip hop via Célia Wa. Venturing out to Tumaco on the Pacific side of Colombia, Verito Asprilla serves up a future-facing, reggaeton heater, ‘Quiero Ser Buena’. Night falls, the rhythms get rowdier the basslines get heavier. Jako Maron’s electronic remix blends his Réunion Island roots with a chugging synth soundscape. Jus Now, the duo of Trinidadian percussionist Keshav and UK producer Sam Interface, showcase their club-driven global sound melding UK bass influences with a Caribbean drum-heavy flavour. Sam then joins Jamz for ‘Tan Toddy’ a fierce dancehall production seen through the lens of UK bashment, with Lateena on the mic and Moses Boyd on the drums. ‘Sin Africa’ is another highlight, with A&R led by Jamz. Brenda’s pumping, heads-down Latin club sound marrying with a deeper message to Diva Cruz’s lyrics. This thread permeates many of the tracks. “Almost everybody on this compilation has been touched or altered in some ways by colonisation. We choose joy and we choose to celebrate what we have and what we've done, but we can't ignore that there has been a colonised existence”, Jamz states. More than a compilation, this is a sonic celebration connecting cultures, scenes and perspectives. Each artist and each track expanding boundaries and borders whilst honouring what has come before them.

Larry June has built a career on making hard work look effortless, and his album Who Coppin' stands as a masterclass in smooth, lifestyle-driven West Coast hip-hop. Standing up for joy and pain and all the messy, confusing, beautiful details that make life worth living. Soulful and timeless, her songs tell stories of the heart, finding universal truths in the honesty of personal experience. Released on UK label Mr Bongo and College of Knowledge in Australia and New Zealand, Triumph & Sadness is her most profound album yet - a powerful and unique record inspired by a classic sweet soul sound and rooted in the contemporary moment. Reaching out with vulnerability and poise, it is a plea for connection in a world gone numb. Recorded over four fruitful days at an all-analogue studio in the stunning natural surroundings of rural Victoria (with additional sessions for horns vocals and overdubs at Sound Park in Northcote), Triumph & Sadness was cut direct-to-tape with all the urgency and warmth of the iconic ‘60s and ‘70s sessions that first inspired her. Written alongside Liam McGorry (Temporary Blessings), featuring collaborators from bands Surprise Chef and Karate Boogaloo and mixed by Daptone and The Womack Sisters collaborator Wayne Gordon, it captures the live energy of a band at the top of their game. Because it is through Melbourne’s vibrant, supportive independent scene that Thompson has found her voice. Coming up alongside contemporaries like Hiatus Kaiyote, two solo releases followed in quick succession, the 7-track EP ‘Domino’ in 2023, and LP Ripple on the Wing in 2024, pushing the boundaries of the song form and immersing herself in studio production, while building a creative community that has in turn shaped her sound. Inspired by Australian soul singer Renée Geyer, who blazed a trail across the country in the 1970s, and a wide tapestry of influences from soul titans like Nina Simone and Curtis Mayfield, to the philosophical musings of Patti Smith, Alice Walker and Simone Weil, Thompson takes the listener by the heart and hand across the album’s 10 shimmering songs. Her belief in the significance of connection shines through on the album’s thematic centrepiece, ‘Promise To Keep’. It is a track that feels at once profound and whimsical in the best possible way, about building nerve, embracing naivety, bravery and love in an act that Thompson likens to a renewed romanticism. Then there is ‘Change of Heart’, which reflects on the temporality, impermanence and synchronicity of a moment, and the bittersweet paradox where everything contains its opposite: absence and presence, innocence and experience, triumph and sadness. Musically, it unfolds as a down-tempo, slinky ballad with falsetto vocals, ending in triumphant horns that signal the release of letting go. Drawing on the group vocal arrangements of bands like The Royalettes, it is devastating in its simplicity. And so, from ‘My Weakness’, which draws on the myth of Narcissus to question the loops of recognition and unsated longing built into life under Capitalism, to the bubbling intensity of ‘Dandelion’ whose contradiction between bitter taste and beautiful flower inspires Thompson to ask what we fear by caring too much, Triumph & Sadness weaves together threads that speak of life’s great challenges. It is a complete and compelling statement from an artist ready to connect with a global audience for the first time.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0004/4099/1797/files/MRBCDLP354-EllaThompson-TriumphandSadness-exposedmarbledyellow.jpg?v=1785244691
dinner-party-whatchu-bringing
Whatchu Bringing

Since forming in 2020, Dinner Party has continued to erase the lines between jazz, soul, and hip-hop, building a discography celebrated for its warmth, musicianship, and effortless chemistry. During the twentieth century, oil industries, migration and tourism reshaped the islands, creating unparalleled cultural exchange while deepening social divisions. Tambú, tumba, calypso and Caribbean dance music coexisted alongside soul, funk, psychedelic rock, reggae, Latin music and American and British pop. The exultation here is hard-won, arrived at rather than assumed, an affirmation drawn up from reflection and a long inward descent, stripped of every naïveté. What animates it is a kind of undirected anger, rage reimagined as a creative force that spends itself in catharsis, and a gratitude so overwhelming it can no longer be contained by the body. This is a music of struggle, but the struggle is not for conquest or ruin; it is for self-affirmation, for the quiet authority of someone defending her principles without ever needing to name them. Conceived as a single, unbroken body of work in which every track answers to the others, Dja Dja is the most architecturally ambitious thing Herlop has made, a giant sudoku built out of smaller sudokus, where the whole had to cohere even as each piece kept its own internal logic. Beneath that design lies a borrowed scaffolding, a structure used at first for purely architectural reasons and then, once the music had taken its shape, allowed to fall away. The frame is gone; the music stands without it. Whatever a listener finds in it is, by her own insistence, no less true than what she found while making it. That borrowed scaffolding was the Hero's Journey, and over time it bled past mere structure into the music's character and into the making itself, there were stretches where Herlop found herself scoring the very ordeal she happened to be living, the process quietly rhyming with its own form, faintly meta, faintly ironic. Across these movements the Catalan composer—classically trained, equally at home in the avant-garde—sets herself a double standard she refused to relax: more open and intelligible than her earlier records, yet venturing onto ground she had never walked before. Voice and bass, so central to her past work, are held deliberately in reserve, withheld until their arrival some ten minutes in lands with real force. For the first time she lets orchestral brass into her palette, scored not by formal training but by intuition, feeling her way toward timbres that conjure whole worlds without ever tipping into excess. Almost everything was made by hand, at home, in a process that could take exactly as long as the music demanded. For months a vast cardboard diagram lay on her studio floor, mapping harmony, instrumentation, tempo and meter until its private rules acquired the force of law; the gamelan was recorded in Bali with local musicians; a trusted friend served as score doctor through the long work of harmony, structure and mix. Throughout, Herlop describes subordinating herself to the music rather than commanding it, following its instructions for as long as it needed her. It is fitting, then, that Dja Dja is her first self-released album, a record made with this much autonomy seemed to ask for it, and the slow pace of its making left no room for a label's calendar. The release is austere by design, almost without imagery. Herlop has little appetite for the visual; she prefers a music that is blind and self-sufficient, and in an age of visual surplus she would rather hand the picture back to the listener. Made with the same modest home setup as its predecessor, it nonetheless sounds like a different artist entirely — a kaleidoscopic rush of sun-bright melodies, tumbling percussion, and psychedelic pop that traded the hushed intimacy of Start Breaking My Heart for something warmer, bigger, and more joyfully overstuffed, encompassing 1960s psychedelia, Madchaster swagger and shoegaze swoon. Snaith was later forced to change his artist name after a well-documented lawsuit, and Up in Flames stands as the final album released under the Manitoba name — a high point to go out on. The record was met with widespread critical acclaim, and has since been recognized by Pitchfork as one of the standout albums of the 2000s. It marked the first record credited to the Caribou name, after Snaith dropped his previous Manitoba moniker following a threatened lawsuit from Handsome Dick Manitoba of The Dictators. Rather than start from scratch, Snaith folded the two sides of himself together — the icy precision of Start Breaking My Heart and the sun-drenched sprawl of Up in Flames — into something both hypnotic - influenced by French progressive rock and German krautrock of the 1970s - and pastoral. The record was met with strong critical acclaim, and its singles, "Yeti" and "Barnowl," remain fan favorites to this day. Twenty-five years on, it still sounds like an artist finding his voice in real time — rainbow melody, hopscotch percussion, and playground laughter stitched into warm, tactile electronic pop. Reflecting on the record, Snaith said it was the first time something clicked — he'd been making music since his early teens, but this was when he first felt he understood what he wanted his tracks to be. Congo, recorded with Lokua Kanza, reconciles her cultural heritage with an ancestral homeland that feels both distant and intimately familiar. On this album, he reinterprets four of the five tracks from his debut, Promises of the Storm. A bold defiance of time and history.
Why revisit the same album, 50 years later? The reasons are many, but one stands above the rest: history itself seems to be repeating. The narrative unfolds once more in the same dire circumstances as half a century ago, as if time has folded in on itself, returning everything to its starting point. The urgency, the necessity—it all remains, pressing and inescapable. We must begin again.
In 1976, a young Marcel Khalife found himself exiled in Paris, fleeing the Lebanese Civil War and his family’s Christian village, where his progressive, left-wing ideas had placed him under a kind of house arrest. He was one of the few to openly and unwaveringly champion the Palestinian cause. The situation quickly became untenable, especially since, just a month before the war began in March 1975, Khalife—fresh out of the conservatory—had given his first public concert to great acclaim. Then, everything collapsed. What does one do when trapped at home? Read books, play the oud, and turn those readings into songs. In his family’s de facto prison, Khalife began setting the poetry of the great Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish to music. These songs, born of confinement, he carried with him into exile, driving to Paris where a producer offered him the chance to record an album. Naturally, the tracks were the ones he had been improvising at home from Darwish’s poems. The album’s title, Promises of the Storm, echoed the war that was just beginning. Khalife recalls that the album became a hit after a concert at the Fête de l’Huma, where 500 copies were sold in a single day. “Everything started there, and it never stopped,” he remembers. He would meet Mahmoud Darwish shortly after, at a dinner organized by mutual friends. From that moment, a deep friendship blossomed between the two men.
With Darwish’s words and Khalife’s music, the songs of Promises of the Storm are imbued with a powerful evocative force—melancholy, tenderness, and poetic resistance in the face of violence. The album catapulted Khalife to international stardom, leading to endless tours and recordings, yet he never abandoned his commitments.
Now, 50 years later, Promises of the Storm returns in a fresh recording, because history is repeating itself. After the Israeli bombings in Lebanon at the end of 2024, Khalife, who was on tour, found himself stranded in Paris. He remembered a recurring request from his son, musician Bachar Mar-Khalife, who had often urged him to re-record his now-classic debut album. One morning, oud in hand, Marcel knocked on his son’s door and said, “Shall we? I’m ready to record.”
These new versions are stripped down, raw, and intimate—just the solitary strings of the oud. Khalife sings as never before, his voice no longer marked by the fragility of youth but imbued with something deeper, freer, unshackled. It soars high yet resonates low, always clear, as if to escape sadness, to evoke love and violence, desire and exile. In just four songs, Khalife encapsulates a lifetime, and a philosophy of life. Rita tells of a love of Darwish’s, with the haunting line (translated from Arabic): “Between Rita’s eyes and mine, a rifle.” Oummi invokes the figure of the mother as a metaphor for the lost land. Promises of the Storm is a meditation on revolution, the hope for change, the melancholy of defeat, and the power of thought. Passport captures, through poetry, the feeling of being stateless—a citizen of everywhere and nowhere.
Time has only strengthened these texts and this music. History never repeats itself without a valid, indispensable reason for the present.

On November 13, 2026, Lacchesi unveils MTY-016 Allo Mama Bobo on Mama Told Ya.

Aura is about the connection between the crowd and me. Music has always been my escape, my way of transforming my emotions and energy into something new.
