A central figure in the modern funk movement since its emergence in the early 2010s, Middleton helped establish MoFunk alongside Funkmosphere member Eddy Funkster, making the label a go-to platform for the genre. The album title references the concept of privately pressed records, traditionally released independently by artists or small labels, while also reflecting the personal nature of the music itself. Middleton's signature synthesizer melodies, bass lines, and dancefloor-ready arrangements form the musical foundation of a collection that transcends conventional party themes. "When You On The Line" delivers a direct message of affection and comfort, while "Fallin On You" and "They Don't Have The Answer" explore social commentary and political themes. “Realtors At My Door (Steps & Chimneys)” references the devastating 2025 wildfires that ravaged the Altadena region, near where Middleton grew up. Guest artists include Moniquea, Zackey Force Funk, Teddy Becks of The Jack Moves, and Kevin Slow Jammin James. Across ten tracks, Private Press blends modern influences of funk, boogie, and hip-hop with personal narratives and social commentary, reaffirming that funk music can be both celebratory and meaningful.
